Source publication date:
The European Chess Union announced plans for a European Chess Super League in 2027. Eight clubs will play a seven-round round robin, using six boards per match and allowing two reserve players in each team’s roster.
Entry routes include the top four teams from the European Club Cup, the highest-rated eligible club, an organiser’s team and two ECU wildcards. The wildcard places can include clubs from Europe or elsewhere, broadening the competition’s potential international reach.
The announced minimum budget is five hundred thousand euros, with three hundred thousand allocated to prizes and one hundred ten thousand for the winning club. Bucharest’s Super Foundation will support the project; the dates and host location were still to be announced.
