Falocchi clears 2.28 for first personal best in nine years
The Herentals victory also exceeded the published European Championships entry standard.
Source publication date:
Christian Falocchi won the high jump in Herentals with 2.28, improving his personal best by three centimetres after nine years. The Italian’s previous best of 2.25 dated from the 2017 indoor season.
Falocchi passed 2.26 after an unsuccessful attempt and then cleared 2.28 in his duel with Algeria’s Younes Ayachi, who had made 2.26 on his first try. The Italian stopped after two failures at 2.30.
The winning clearance exceeded the published 2.27 standard for the European Championships in Birmingham. It followed a prolonged period of injuries and a return to competition in the preceding summer. His January result marked renewed progression without constituting confirmation of final national-team selection.
