Feller wins his first Kitzbuehel slalom
Austria ended a nine-year wait for a home winner in the race.
Source publication date:
Manuel Feller won the men’s slalom in Kitzbuehel in 1:40.60, rising from fourth after the opening run. The Austrian’s decisive second leg gave him his first podium at the venue after eleven attempts and brought a home victory to an emotional crowd.
First-run leader Loic Meillard finished second, 0.35 seconds behind. Linus Strasser took third at 0.53 seconds for his first podium in almost two years, while Lucas Pinheiro Braathen missed the top three by four hundredths.
Feller became the first Austrian winner of the Kitzbuehel slalom since Marcel Hirscher in 2017. Braathen’s fourth place was sufficient to move him into the discipline standings lead after Atle Lie McGrath failed to finish.
