FIDE published the qualification framework for its 2027 Freestyle Chess World Championship. Eight places will be awarded through a cycle extending from April 2026 to January 2027, combining results from over-the-board tournaments and online competition.

The top three finishers at the 2026 world championship receive direct places. Another berth goes to the winner of the Grenke Freestyle Open, scheduled for April 2 to 6, while two designated events will supply additional qualifiers.

The remaining routes are the season-long Freestyle Friday competition on Chess.com and a separate online qualifying event planned for January 1 to 15, 2027. FIDE said further rules would address how places pass down when qualified players withdraw or qualification routes overlap.
