FIDE discusses a two-hundred-school programme in DR Congo

Dana Reizniece visited Kinshasa for discussions on expanding chess in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The FIDE Management Board deputy chair met sports minister Didier Budimbu, who supported efforts to broaden participation in the national championship and strengthen selection for the Chess Olympiad.
Education discussions covered potential funding to introduce chess in approximately two hundred schools. Officials also considered a memorandum under which FIDE would support teacher training and educational resources, together with a visit to Uzbekistan to study classroom implementation.
Reizniece visited Maarif School and played a simultaneous exhibition at Gombe Chess Club. Around fifteen players participated, including four women. Josué Kanda recorded the only victory against her, while Christophe Binana secured a draw.
