FIDE highlights revised chess equipment standards
The March framework clarifies approval procedures and introduces a technical manual.
Source publication date:
FIDE reminded equipment manufacturers, organisers and arbiters that its revised chess equipment regulations took effect on 1 March. The changes apply to section C.02 of the federation’s technical specifications, rules and regulations for equipment used in official chess activities.
The federation described clearer compliance, approval and endorsement procedures as central aims of the revision. It said the update addresses provisions that had become fragmented, outdated or insufficiently precise, while seeking more consistent administration of equipment standards.
The revised framework also introduces the FIDE Technical Commission Manual as a reference for this work. Manufacturers and tournament officials were directed to the updated regulations, with technical commission secretary Hendrik du Toit named as the contact for further enquiries.
