FIDE introduces two-stage world cadet cycle
A qualifying cup in Batumi will lead to limited-field world title events for children aged under eight, ten and twelve.
Source publication date:
FIDE announced a revised world cadet championship cycle for the under-eight, under-ten and under-twelve categories. The earlier large-field championship becomes a World Cadets Cup, providing qualification for separate world title events later in the year.
Batumi will stage the qualifying cup from 15 to 28 June. National federations may nominate one invited player in each age and gender category, while eligible previous medal winners and continental champions also receive invitations. Registration is due by 15 April.
The final championships are scheduled for 10 to 17 November with 48 players across six sections. Each eight-player section will include three cup qualifiers, four continental nominations and one host nomination. Qualified finalists receive full-board accommodation as personal-right participants.
