FIDE removes Russian Chess Crown match from ratings
An approval error prompted a correction to the March active-player list.
Source publication date:
FIDE corrected its March rating list after identifying an approval error involving the Russian Chess Crown match. The Qualification Commission removed the event from the rating system because its inclusion breached the federation’s advance-registration rules.
Article 0.2.1 requires registration at least thirty days before an event starts when a player is rated above 2700, or a female player above 2500. FIDE said the match had been included despite those requirements not being met.
As a result of the correction, Sergey Karjakin’s status changed to inactive and he was removed from the active-player rankings. The Qualification Commission acknowledged the problem with the list’s release and said it would work to improve the approval process.
