FISU remembers university-sport leader Alf Lazer
The Australian honorary member died in Melbourne at the age of one hundred.

FISU announced the death of emeritus honorary member Alf Lazer, who died in Melbourne on 3 February at the age of one hundred. President Leonz Eder paid tribute to his long service and commitment to the values of international university sport.
Lazer first attended a Universiade as an Australian team official in Moscow in 1973. He later served as FISU Executive Committee auditor from 1983 to 1991 and assessor from 1991 to 1999, before chairing the squash technical committee.
His contributions also included work on Brisbane’s Universiade bid and support for the Australian university-sport movement. Recognition included the Order of Australia and FISU’s Jean Petitjean Award, reflecting a career that connected competition administration with broader service to student athletes.
