All four opening women's matches at the Santiago World Cup qualifier ended in shutouts. Japan beat Canada 4–0, Ireland defeated Malaysia 5–0, Australia overcame France 4–0 and host Chile recorded the largest win, 6–0 against Switzerland.

Ireland's five goals came from five players after Kathryn Mullan broke through in the second quarter. Australia built its four goal lead before half-time, with Neasa Flynn opening the scoring and Amy Lawton marking her hundredth international appearance.

Chile captain Manuela Urroz struck twice in quick succession as the hosts took control. Japan's scoring was spread across the match, ending with Maiko Mikami's penalty stroke. The results established early advantages for the favourites while each winning side kept its defensive record intact.
