Fraebel repeats Oberhof win before Olympic break
Schulte remained the overall leader after finishing second.
Source publication date:
Merle Fraebel won the women’s singles World Cup in Oberhof for the second consecutive week, completing two runs in 1:23.330. The result was her third World Cup victory, all achieved on the same track.
Fraebel had been third after the opening heat, behind Lisa Schulte and Hannah Prock, after problems at the start. A change to her start approach helped produce the fastest second run. Schulte finished second, 0.105 seconds behind, with Julia Taubitz third at 0.137 seconds.
Taubitz recovered from eighth at halfway with the second-fastest closing heat. Elina Bota finished fourth, ahead of Anna Berreiter and Nathalie Maag. Schulte retained the overall World Cup lead with 464 points, fifteen clear of Taubitz, after the last World Cup before the Olympics.
