Franzoni wins the Kitzbuehel downhill by seven hundredths
His first downhill victory followed the previous week’s Wengen super-G breakthrough.
Source publication date:
Giovanni Franzoni won the men’s downhill in Kitzbuehel, edging Marco Odermatt by 0.07 seconds on the demanding Streif course. The twenty-four-year-old Italian handled its technical turns effectively to secure his first World Cup downhill victory.
Maxence Muzaton finished third, 0.39 seconds behind, from bib twenty-nine. The Frenchman reached a World Cup podium for the first time since a combined event in 2017, adding a second breakthrough story to the race.
Franzoni had earned his first World Cup win in Wengen’s super-G only a week earlier. His Kitzbuehel success extended that rapid rise, while Odermatt again finished close to the title he was seeking: this was the Swiss skier’s third runner-up result in the famous downhill.
