Gadecki and Peers retain Australian Open mixed title
The Australian wildcards recovered late in the final’s deciding match tiebreak.
Source publication date:
Olivia Gadecki and John Peers retained the Australian Open mixed doubles title by defeating Kristina Mladenovic and Manuel Guinard 4–6, 6–3, 10–8. The home wildcards became the first pair to win consecutive Melbourne mixed titles since Jana Novotna and Jim Pugh in 1988–89.
The Australians trailed 5–7 in the deciding match tiebreak before winning five of the last six points. Gadecki contributed strong baseline play, and Peers’ return created two championship points before Guinard missed a return on the second to settle the final.
They also became the first Australian pair to retain the home mixed title since Margaret Court and Ken Fletcher in 1963–64. The victory was Peers’ third major mixed doubles crown, adding to his 2022 US Open title and the partnership’s previous Melbourne success.
