Tommaso Giacomel won the men’s 10km sprint in Oberhof in 25:01.7. After missing once in the prone stage, the Italian shot clean standing and established a lead that his rivals could not overturn.

Philipp Nawrath finished second for Germany, 13.2 seconds behind, and Norway’s Johannes Dale-Skjevdal placed third, 25.2 seconds back. Both also recorded one penalty. Sebastian Samuelsson, Martin Uldal and Eric Perrot occupied the next three positions.

The race began with a remembrance for Sivert Guttorm Bakken, who had died over the Christmas break. Giacomel linked his performance to his late friend and described conflicting emotions after a win achieved in Oberhof’s characteristic fog and wind.
