His sixty-eight goals surpassed the previous single-tournament men’s European Championship mark.
Source publication date:
Mathias Gidsel finished the men’s European Championship with the title, Most Valuable Player award and top-scorer distinction. He became the first Danish player to receive the tournament’s MVP honour, adding the recognition to earlier awards at world championships and the Olympic Games.
Gidsel scored sixty-eight goals, including seven in the final, breaking Sander Sagosen’s record of sixty-five set in 2020. His teammate Simon Pytlick finished second in the scoring list, underlining Denmark’s attacking contribution during the championship campaign.
The award was Gidsel’s fifth MVP recognition at a major international tournament. Denmark’s victory also completed simultaneous possession of the Olympic, world and European titles. Gidsel credited his teammates for the achievement and identified the collective gold medal as his main priority.
