Gimmler and Rydzek win Goms team sprint
Germany beat two Norwegian teams in the last World Cup stage before the Olympics.
Source publication date:
Laura Gimmler and Coletta Rydzek won the women’s freestyle team sprint in Goms. The German pair finished 0.52 seconds ahead of Norway’s Astrid Oeyre Slind and Julie Bjervig Drivenes, while Karoline Groetting and Tiril Udnes Weng took third for Norway’s second team.
Germany spent much of the race in third position. On the sixth and final lap, Rydzek passed Weng at the last corner and then overtook Drivenes in the finishing straight to secure victory.
Finland’s Jasmin Kahara and Jasmi Joensuu finished fourth, followed by the United States and Switzerland. The result gave Gimmler and Rydzek confidence before the Olympic team sprint, an event Germany had won four years earlier with Katharina Hennig and Victoria Carl.
