Hong Kong will host the fourth FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships from 17 to 21 June. The announcement moves the event to East Asia after earlier editions in Düsseldorf, Astana and London, widening its international hosting footprint.

The competition combines professional and recreational players in the same teams and uses match points for scoring. Every team must include a female player and a recreational player who has never reached a rating of 2000 in any of the three rated formats.

WR Chess announced a prospective lineup including Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Hou Yifan. FIDE said further regulations and prize-fund details would follow. The host city had recently staged international open and regional junior events as part of its expanding chess programme.
