ICC activates travel contingency plans during World Cup
Alternative routes and a support desk addressed disruption affecting travellers using Gulf airport hubs.
Source publication date:
The ICC activated contingency arrangements for people connected with the men’s T20 World Cup as tensions in the Middle East threatened travel plans. It said the situation did not directly affect tournament operations in India and Sri Lanka but could disrupt journeys through Gulf hubs.
Players, team staff, officials, broadcasters and event personnel frequently use Dubai and other regional airports when returning home. The federation’s travel team worked with airlines to identify alternative connections through Europe, South Asia and Southeast Asia, aiming to maintain onward travel with less disruption.
Security consultants coordinated with relevant authorities and the ICC established a dedicated travel support desk. The federation also advised travelling supporters to follow official advisories and consider conditions before further international journeys. It committed to issuing updates as the situation developed toward the tournament’s conclusion.
