ICC seeks resolution over Pakistan participation decision

The ICC issued a statement after Pakistan’s government instructed the national team to participate selectively in the men’s T20 World Cup. At publication, the federation said it was awaiting official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board concerning the position.

The governing body argued that qualified teams were expected to compete on equal terms under the published schedule. It linked that expectation to the tournament’s sporting integrity, fairness and competitive consistency, while acknowledging governments’ roles in decisions about national policy.

The statement called for the Pakistan board to explore a mutually acceptable solution that protected stakeholders and the tournament’s delivery. It also asked the board to consider potential long-term implications for Pakistani cricket and its relationship with the wider international game and supporter base.
