IIHF explains the playing requirement behind Triple Gold Club membership
The March guide clarified how Olympic, world championship and Stanley Cup participation count toward the honour.
Source publication date:
The IIHF published a guide to Triple Gold Club eligibility after Olympic discussions about possible new members. The honour recognises players who have won Olympic gold, world championship gold and the Stanley Cup, but roster inclusion alone does not satisfy every requirement.
For international tournaments, a player must appear in at least one game to receive credit toward membership. The guide used Marc-André Fleury's unused backup role at the 2010 Olympics and Darcy Kuemper's lack of playing time in Milan to illustrate that distinction.
Stanley Cup credit follows the NHL's engraving eligibility, including one appearance in the final or half the regular season. The IIHF reported thirty members, with Valtteri Filppula the most recent addition in 2022 and the first Finn.
