IJF documents elite referees’ continuing kata examinations
A Dushanbe assessment illustrated the education requirements behind World Judo Tour officiating.
Source publication date:
The International Judo Federation highlighted continuing referee education during the Dushanbe World Judo Tour stop on 1 May. An examination in Katame-no-kata illustrated the technical knowledge expected of officials beyond their decisions in live contests.
Roberta Chyurlia performed the assessment with Melanie Percheron as uke, under the supervision of IJF refereeing directors Raul Camacho and Tina Trstenjak. The federation explained that World Judo Tour referees first complete an IJF Academy Nage-no-kata requirement and then undertake the additional Katame-no-kata examination.
The account placed the assessment within a limited pool of about 50 top-level officials. Its significance lies in maintaining technical consistency through structured learning and examination, rather than introducing a newly announced universal contest rule. The educational development is separate from the athletes’ medal results at the same tournament.
