India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai after posting 256/4, the highest total of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. The victory kept India’s semi-final challenge alive while ending Zimbabwe’s hopes of progressing beyond the Super Eight stage.
Abhishek Sharma scored 55, and Hardik Pandya reached an unbeaten fifty from 23 deliveries. Pandya and Tilak Varma added an unbroken 84 for the fifth wicket in 31 balls. India struck 17 sixes and 17 fours across the innings.
Brian Bennett responded with an unbeaten 97 from 59 balls, but Zimbabwe finished on 184/6. Arshdeep Singh took 3/24. The result made India’s forthcoming match against West Indies decisive for the remaining Group 1 semi-final place.
