Ireland’s men’s Under-20 side defeated Italy 29–10 in a Six Nations warm-up at the UCD Bowl. The match was played on January 17 and gave the home team competitive preparation ahead of its championship opener against France in Perpignan.
Josh Neill scored twice from driving mauls as Ireland established a 12–10 half-time lead. Italy had opened its scoring with a penalty from Fasti before Dinarte crossed in the nineteenth minute, keeping the visitors close through the first half.
Ireland prevented Italy from adding any second-half points, then secured the result with late tries from James O’Dwyer and Johnny Byrne. Charlie O’Shea supplied seven points from the kicking tee. The fixture was Italy’s first game under coach Andrea di Giandomenico.
