Japan beat Korea Republic 4-1 at Stadium Australia to reach the Women’s Asian Cup final. The victory set up another title match against Australia, repeating the 2014 and 2018 finals, and marked Japan’s seventh appearance in the continental decider.
Riko Ueki opened the scoring after Japan’s pressing forced a defensive mistake. Maika Hamano then dribbled past opponents near the corner flag and finished from a tight angle to create a two-goal advantage before half-time.
Saki Kumagai headed in a corner during the second half before Kang Chae-rim scored Korea Republic’s reply, the first goal Japan had conceded in the tournament. Remina Chiba soon added the fourth on a counterattack, ending any immediate prospect of a comeback.
