Esperance defeated Al Ahly 3-2 in Cairo to complete a 4-2 aggregate win in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. Hamza Jelassi scored the decisive stoppage-time header after earlier putting the ball into his own net during a fluctuating return leg.
Trezeguet gave Al Ahly an early lead, drawing the tie level overall. Esperance goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said kept the visitors in contention before Florian Danho equalised after the interval and Mohamed Amine Tougai converted a penalty to move the Tunisian side ahead.
Jelassi’s own goal revived Al Ahly’s hopes late in normal time. He then answered at the other end in the ninety-fourth minute, securing Esperance’s second victory of the tie and eliminating the record African champions.
