Denis Kadrić won the Montenegrin chess championship for the first time with nine points from eleven rounds. The second seed had finished third at each of his three previous appearances before converting this campaign into the national title.
The Chess Federation of Montenegro staged the Swiss-system event at the Radosav Ljumović National Library in Podgorica from 10 to 19 February. Kadrić took the sole lead by defeating Jovan Milović in round eight and remained ahead until the finish.
A final-round draw against defending champion Nikita Petrov secured his victory. Nikola Đukić and Milović finished half a point behind, with Đukić taking silver on tiebreaks. The tournament had a €15,000 prize fund and also recognised leading female, junior and rating-category players.
