Katharina Filter connects Germany’s silver medal with women’s handball outreach
The goalkeeper describes the response from young players after the home World Championship.
Source publication date:
German goalkeeper Katharina Filter discussed the wider effect of the national team’s 2025 World Championship silver in an EHF interview. She linked the sporting result with the Hands up for more campaign, which promoted visibility, equality and respect for women’s handball during the home tournament.
The campaign included free referee courses for women, activities for primary-school girls and specially designed national-team shirts. Filter said messages from young players suggested that watching Germany’s performances had encouraged some to begin handball or pursue their development with greater ambition.
The goalkeeper returned to club competition with Esbjerg after the tournament and described silver as particularly meaningful following earlier beach-handball titles. Her account emphasised the interaction between sustained preparation, home support and an outreach programme seeking a lasting increase in participation beyond the medal itself.
