Australia secured a Women’s Asian Cup quarter-final place with a 4-0 victory against Iran on the Gold Coast. Alanna Kennedy scored twice as the hosts won their second Group A fixture, a result that also confirmed Korea Republic’s progress.
Amy Sayer opened the scoring when her delivery flew directly into the net. Mary Fowler added a second after goalkeeper Maryam Yektaei failed to collect a cross, and Kennedy volleyed in Sam Kerr’s flick to establish a three-goal half-time advantage.
Kennedy headed in Emily van Egmond’s corner after the break to complete her first international brace. Australia continued to seek further goals but remained at four, turning attention to their meeting with Korea Republic to determine the group winner.
