Klaebo returns from concussion to win Lake Placid ten kilometres
The Norwegian led a national podium sweep and regained the distance standings lead.
Source publication date:
Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo won the men’s ten-kilometre classic interval start in Lake Placid in 26:44.5. The Norwegian returned eight days after a Drammen fall led to concussion, finishing 14.7 seconds ahead of Andreas Fjorden Ree in heavy snowfall.
Mattis Stenshagen took third to complete a Norwegian podium sweep. Klaebo was already more than ten seconds clear halfway through the race and maintained his advantage as fresh snow complicated the tracks and forced competitors to use herringbone technique on several climbs.
The win moved Klaebo twelve points ahead of Harald Oestberg Amundsen in the distance standings before the closing mass start. Klaebo planned to skip Saturday’s sprint to manage his recovery and preserve the possibility of racing the final distance event.
