Klaebo wins Lake Placid finale to complete globe sweep
The distance title joined his sprint and overall honours after a narrow twenty-kilometre victory.
Source publication date:
Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo won the twenty-kilometre freestyle mass start in Lake Placid, beating Harald Oestberg Amundsen by eight-tenths of a second. The final race of the season secured Klaebo’s first distance Crystal Globe, completing a sweep alongside his overall and sprint titles in the World Cup standings.
Amundsen attempted to break away to prevent a sprint finish, but Klaebo stayed close and collected maximum bonus points at two checkpoints. Six skiers remained together entering the final loop, before Klaebo accelerated on the last climb and retained his advantage into the stadium.
Einar Hedegart finished third ahead of Mattis Stenshagen. Andreas Fjorden Ree’s fifth place lifted him to third in the distance standings, while Lars Heggen won the under-twenty-three classification.
