Korea Republic open with a three-goal win against Iran
Choe Yu-ri, Kim Hye-ri and Ko Yoo-jin scored in the Group A fixture.
Source publication date:
Korea Republic began their Women’s Asian Cup campaign with a 3-0 victory over Iran. After sustained pressure against committed defending, the 2022 runners-up found the breakthrough before half-time and added two further goals during the second period.
Choe Yu-ri reacted to Jang Sel-gi’s shot hitting a post and converted the rebound. Iran had largely contained their opponents until that moment, although goalkeeper Maryam Yektaei also faced several efforts as Korea Republic searched for an opening.
Kim Hye-ri converted a penalty after substitute Lee Eun-young was fouled soon after entering. Kim later supplied the free kick that captain Ko Yoo-jin headed in, completing the three-goal margin before Korea Republic’s next group match against the Philippines.
