New Zealand adds Clarke for first three India T20Is
Injuries to Adam Milne and Michael Bracewell prompted extra squad cover.
Source publication date:
New Zealand added Kristian Clarke to its squad for the opening three matches of the T20 international series against India. The all-rounder remained with the touring group after contributing during the one-day series, which New Zealand had won.
The decision provided cover amid injuries to Adam Milne and Michael Bracewell. Milne hurt his hamstring during South Africa’s SA20 tournament, while Bracewell sustained a calf injury in the final ODI against India, with both also selected for the T20 World Cup.
Coach Rob Walter praised Clarke’s composure under pressure and wanted sufficient pace options during the first part of the series. The five-match programme began in Nagpur on 21 January before continuing through four other Indian cities.
