Late Leech goal denies Solomon Kings a home victory
South Melbourne salvaged a 1-1 draw before a full Honiara stadium.
Source publication date:
Charlie Leech struck in added time to earn South Melbourne a 1-1 draw against Solomon Kings at Honiara’s National Stadium. The home side had looked set to turn strong local support into victory in the concluding match of the Pro League’s fourth round.
Javin Wae put the Kings ahead with a header from a corner just before half-time. Both teams had created early openings, with Raphael Lea’i and Jordan Swibel denied by the opposing goalkeepers during an open first period.
Leech forced the ball over the line amid a crowded penalty area, with a lengthy VAR check confirming the equaliser. South Melbourne then lost Sebastian Pasquali to a second booking, but Solomon Kings had insufficient time to restore their lead.
