Torrie Malik reached her first Silver-level semifinal by defeating Nour Heikal 8–11, 11–7, 3–11, 12–10, 11–7 at the New Zealand Open. The fifty-six-minute quarterfinal included a left-knee injury during the fourth game, when the English player appeared close to defeat.

After hyperextending the knee, Malik fell 8–2 behind but won eight consecutive points to turn the game around. She eventually took it 12–10, then completed the comeback in the deciding game to advance at Christchurch’s Isaac Theatre Royal.

Paul Coll conceded only eight points against Eain Yow Ng in another quarterfinal, winning 11–4, 11–2, 11–2. Mohamad Zakaria defeated Nicolas Mueller in straight games and Joel Makin beat Patrick Rooney, while Marina Stefanoni survived a five-game encounter with Grace Gear.
