Malta partners agree steps for inclusive water polo
A coordination group and athlete eligibility work will support a unified competition model.
Source publication date:
European Aquatics, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta and Waterpolo Ability Malta agreed practical steps towards more structured inclusive water polo. Their coordination meeting focused on incorporating inclusion into the federation’s long-term development strategy, governance and competition settings during 2026.
Participants identified a unified model in which athletes with and without disabilities compete together under shared sporting objectives, with adapted regulations where needed. They agreed to establish a dedicated coordination group and define athlete eligibility and classification criteria by the end of March.
The meeting also considered inclusion initiatives linked to the men’s and women’s Champions League Final Four events in Malta. Continued institutional discussion will support implementation, with the national association and local foundation working alongside European Aquatics on the next phase.
