The Canadian teenager defeated Clara Tauson during her Australian Open debut.
Source publication date:
Victoria Mboko defeated Clara Tauson 7–6(5), 5–7, 6–3 to reach a Grand Slam fourth round for the first time. The nineteen-year-old Canadian achieved the milestone in her Australian Open main-draw debut after climbing from outside the top three hundred during the previous year.
Mboko held three match points in the second set but had to regroup after Tauson extended the contest. She eventually converted a fourth match point with a backhand volley, finishing a two-hour, twenty-minute match in which both players repeatedly produced powerful winners.
The result set up a meeting with world number one Aryna Sabalenka. The same report recorded Iva Jovic’s first top-ten win against Jasmine Paolini, while Elina Svitolina and Mirra Andreeva advanced to another fourth-round encounter through straight-sets victories.
