Summer McIntosh set a women’s 200m butterfly world record of 2:01.65 at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Montreal on 5 July. World Aquatics reported the performance on 8 July, with the Canadian Press independently confirming the race date and time.

The swim lowered Liu Zige’s 2:01.81, set in October 2009, by 0.16 seconds. McIntosh reached halfway in 58.21, followed by a 31.52 third length and a 31.92 final length. The third 50 metres made the decisive difference against the previous record pace.

The performance added the butterfly mark to her long-course records in the 200m and 400m individual medley and 400m freestyle at the time. It followed her 2:01.99 swim at the 2025 World Championships, when she had narrowly missed the longstanding standard.
