Memphis returns to WTA calendar with July outdoor tournament
The new WTA 250 replaces Cleveland and uses renovated Leftwich Tennis Centre.
Source publication date:
The WTA announced Memphis’ return to its calendar for the first time since 2013. The Memphis Classic was scheduled for the week of 27 July as a WTA 250 event, replacing Cleveland’s planned late-August tournament during the North American hard-court season.
Leftwich Tennis Centre was selected as the venue following a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion completed in 2023. The competition would use outdoor hard courts, with a thirty-two-player singles draw and sixteen doubles teams announced for the returning Tennessee stop.
Memphis previously hosted the US National Indoor Championships, with Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka among its former women’s winners. The new event therefore restored a city with an established tour history while bringing professional competition to its upgraded tennis facilities.
