Moanda winner gives Maniema a quarter-final advantage

Maniema Union beat USM Alger 2-1 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final. The Congolese club took a narrow advantage from the match at TP Mazembe Stadium, with Exaucia Moanda restoring their lead after the visitors had equalised.
Clément Pitroipa converted a penalty shortly before half-time to put Maniema ahead. The tightly contested opening period gave the home team an advantage to protect, but USM returned from the interval with increased attacking purpose.
Ahmed Khaldi brought the Algerian side level early in the second half. Moanda answered just over ten minutes later, and Maniema managed the closing stages to retain their lead. USM would have home advantage in the return as both clubs pursued a semi-final place.
