Mokdar wins French final for second Astana title

Faiza Mokdar won the women’s -57kg title at the Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam in Astana, beating compatriot Chloe Devictor in the final. The result delivered a second Grand Slam gold for Mokdar in Kazakhstan.

Mokdar established an early advantage with a seoi-otoshi scored as yuko, then followed up on the ground to finish by ippon. Devictor took silver after an all-French final featuring attacks and strong defensive exchanges from both judoka.

Shannon Van de Meeberg of the Netherlands beat Brazil’s Jessica Lima with an uchi-mata scoring waza-ari to secure bronze. Brazil’s Sarah Souza took the remaining bronze against Italy’s Veronica Toniolo with a ko-soto-gake.
