The ICC announced an opening ceremony at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium ahead of India’s men’s T20 World Cup match against the United States. Rishab Sharma, Shivamani, Badshah and Nora Fatehi were named as performers for the programme starting at 6pm Indian time.
The ceremony plan included a musical medley followed by the World Cup trophy arriving with a jetpack performer. ICC chairman Jay Shah and former India captain Rohit Sharma were to receive the trophy, joined by twenty young ambassadors representing the participating nations.
Attendance was restricted to ticket holders for the match, with organisers encouraging spectators to arrive early. The ceremony formed part of the launch of the tournament’s tenth edition, hosted by India and Sri Lanka with twenty teams competing across four initial groups.
