The Muscat Nights International Chess Championship concluded with 270 players representing 36 countries. FIDE published its report in February following the event, held from 14 to 24 January at Al Amal Club Hall in the Omani capital.
The Oman Chess Committee organised two nine-round classical Swiss competitions divided above and below a 2000 rating, alongside a blitz tournament. The field included more than ten grandmasters and more than ten international masters, providing strong opposition for regional and emerging competitors.
Indian players took leading positions across two categories, according to the report. The organisers also arranged sightseeing visits in Muscat and friendly football matches after the daily chess rounds. These accompanying activities formed part of a programme designed to connect visiting players with the host city.
