Source publication date:
The first World Rugby Nations Cup round produced 59 tries across six matches. Canada and Spain drew 42–42, with Kyle Tremblay’s late try and Takoda McMullin’s conversion bringing the hosts level after time had expired.
The USA edged Portugal 30–29 through Christopher Hilsenbeck’s late penalty, despite Manuel Cardoso Pinto scoring four tries. Georgia beat Uruguay 41–34, Samoa defeated Hong Kong China 66–19 and Chile overcame Romania 48–31.
Tonga completed the opening winners with a 36–26 victory over Zimbabwe. The results marked the start of a cross-pool competition spanning July and November, rather than a completed championship or a final determination of its pool champions.
