New Zealand claim their first win over South American opposition
Four different scorers delivered a 4-1 victory against Chile in Auckland.

New Zealand defeated Chile 4-1 at Eden Park to record their first victory over a South American national team. The result completed their home FIFA Series programme and provided an encouraging final appearance in Auckland before the World Cup.
Chile were reduced to ten men when Dario Osorio received a second yellow card. New Zealand capitalised before half-time, with Kosta Barbarouses and Elijah Just scoring from set pieces to establish a two-goal advantage.
Jesse Randall added the third after the interval and substitute Ben Waine scored again before Gonzalo Tapia’s late reply. The All Whites finished second in their FIFA Series group behind Finland, turning around their earlier defeat and giving home supporters a memorable send-off.
