New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs in Colombo, ending the co-host’s semi-final hopes at the Men’s T20 World Cup. New Zealand recovered to 168/7 and held Sri Lanka to 107/8, moving to three points in its Super Eight group.

Captain Mitchell Santner made 47 from 26 balls and Cole McConchie remained unbeaten on 31. Their 84-run seventh-wicket partnership rescued the side from 84/6, with 70 runs added in the final four overs after Sri Lanka’s earlier bowling success.

Matt Henry dismissed Pathum Nissanka with the first ball and finished with 2/3 from two overs. Rachin Ravindra took 4/27, his best T20 international figures. Sri Lanka’s second Super Eight defeat confirmed its elimination while strengthening New Zealand’s position.
