Nigel Short visits Togo for chess development
FIDE’s development director discussed schools, clubs and coach training with the Togolese federation.

FIDE development director Nigel Short visited Togo for discussions with the Togolese Chess Federation about expanding participation. The programme addressed the organisation of clubs, coach training and ways to create a wider base of players across the country.
The federation also held a conference on chess in education involving young players and partners, including the National Social Security Fund. Short discussed concentration, decision-making and the role of regular tournament play in developing young competitors and sustaining their interest.
The visit included the launch of the Chess Popularization Program, known as PIVE, with FIDE support. Federation president Ndjellé Abby Edah identified schools and licensed-player growth as priorities. African Chess Confederation president Tshepiso Lopang supported the federation development work.
