Odermatt sets Wengen downhill victory record
His fourth consecutive win surpassed Feuz and Klammer’s three-title totals.
Source publication date:
Marco Odermatt won the men’s downhill in Wengen by 0.79 seconds, becoming the first athlete to claim four World Cup downhills at the venue. High winds shortened the Lauberhorn course, but the Swiss skier produced a decisive advantage through its opening sectors.
Vincent Kriechmayr finished second, while Giovanni Franzoni took third from bib twenty-eight, a day after his maiden super-G victory. Franjo von Allmen and Alexis Monney followed in fourth and fifth, with Dominik Paris completing the top six.
Odermatt’s fourth successive Wengen victory moved him beyond Beat Feuz and Franz Klammer on the race’s wins list. Behind the winner, only 0.17 seconds separated Kriechmayr in second from Paris in sixth, underlining the size of Odermatt’s advantage.
