Jessica Pegula defeated doubles partner McCartney Kessler 6–0, 6–2 to reach the Australian Open third round. The sixth seed completed the match in fifty-eight minutes at Rod Laver Arena, recovering her rhythm after Kessler took a medical timeout between sets.

Pegula acknowledged the unusual situation of meeting the same player with whom she had finally arranged a doubles partnership. Her next singles opponent was Oksana Selekhmeteva, who had beaten twenty-fifth seed Paula Badosa elsewhere in the second-round programme that day.

Amanda Anisimova and defending champion Madison Keys also advanced in straight sets. Anisimova defeated Katerina Siniakova 6–1, 6–4 at Margaret Court Arena, while Keys overcame fellow American Ashlyn Krueger 6–1, 7–5 at John Cain Arena as her title defence continued.
