Jessica Pegula defeated defending champion Madison Keys 6–3, 6–4 in the Australian Open fourth round. The sixth seed completed the all-American contest in one hour and eighteen minutes at Rod Laver Arena and reached her fourth quarterfinal at the tournament.

Pegula used varied serve placement and changes of pace to limit Keys’ power. She regained an opening-set break immediately after losing her advantage, then built a 4–1 lead in the second. Keys recovered one break but could not force a deciding set.

The result levelled their head-to-head record at 2–2 after Keys had won the previous year’s Adelaide final. Pegula advanced to face another American, Amanda Anisimova, while the defeated champion’s bid for consecutive Melbourne titles ended before the tournament’s final eight.
