Manuel Petrosyan and Anahit Mkrtchyan won Armenia’s national chess championships in Yerevan. The eighty-sixth open championship and eighty-first women’s championship ran from January 13 to 21 at the Tigran Petrosyan Chess House Sports School.

Both sections used ten-player classical round robins. Petrosyan earned his second national title with six points from nine games, defeating Arsen Davtyan in the final round. Artur Davtyan took silver and Zaven Andriasian bronze after three players finished on five and a half points.

Mkrtchyan captured her first women’s title with six and a half points, drawing her final two games. Astghik Hakobyan finished half a point behind after losing twice late in the event. The champions secured places representing Armenia in team competition.
